Grantee Spotlight: A Precious Child

In 2008, A Precious Child began in a garage with a simple mission: to provide children in need with essential resources and opportunities to reach their full potential. In their first year, they served just over 50 children. From that small but mighty start, A Precious Child has grown into a leading nonprofit headquartered right here in Broomfield—one that now serves eight counties and partners with more than 300 agencies.
BCF is proud to support A Precious Child through our Human Services grant cycle, a partnership with the City and County of Broomfield’s Department of Human Services. Our most recent grant helps fund A Precious Child’s Resource Bridge, a program that provides critical essentials while also connecting families with long-term pathways toward stability.
The Resource Bridge has three components:
- Resource Center – A holistic hub where families access essential support and resources to work toward self-sufficiency.
- Community Distributions – Large-scale events held in trusted local neighborhoods that remove transportation barriers and deliver essentials directly to families.
- Satellite Resource Centers – Eighteen on-site “closets” located in schools, shelters, hospitals, and other partner facilities, including Broomfield’s Emerald Elementary School and the Department of Human Services office.
At the heart of A Precious Child’s mission are three pillars: Basic Needs, Enrichment Opportunities, and Workforce Readiness (Pathways).
- Basic Needs: At its 26,000-square-foot facility in Broomfield, A Precious Child’s donation center processes an astonishing 4,000 pounds of clothing and household items every day. Families are then referred to the no-cost retail store, where in 2024 alone 7,000 families shopped for essentials. Each day, up to 40 families are welcomed, and each family member may leave with 40 items. On average, every family receives $2,019 worth of goods per year, and they may visit the store twice annually for up to two years.
- Enrichment Opportunities: Beyond clothing and supplies, A Precious Child enriches children’s lives through programs such as the Fill A Backpack initiative, holiday gifts, and sports and dance camps—removing barriers so every child can learn, play, and grow.
- Workforce Readiness (Pathways): This innovative program supports young adults by providing a safe space to learn workplace skills and gain hands-on experience in A Precious Child’s retail store and warehouse.
Efficiency is another hallmark of A Precious Child’s approach. Thanks to system improvements, families no longer face a four-month waitlist for referrals—wait times have been reduced to zero. Behind this progress is a community of 6,906 volunteers, who in 2024 contributed 39,514 hours of service.
As Nichole Everman, A Precious Child’s Chief Operating Officer, shared, the impact extends far beyond clothing: “By meeting families where they are—whether in a school, shelter, or neighborhood—we remove barriers and open doors to opportunity.”
BCF and the City and County of Broomfield are honored to invest in A Precious Child’s work, ensuring that children and families across our region can access the support they need to thrive.
