Celebrating a New Place to Call Home: The Grove at Cottonwood

On September 2, the Broomfield Community Foundation was honored to join community partners for the ribbon-cutting of The Grove at Cottonwood, a new 40-unit income-aligned rental community that includes ten dedicated homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Additional IDD families can apply for units designated for low-income housing.
Across Colorado, thousands of IDD adults are seeking what so many of us take for granted: a safe, supportive, and independent place to call home. As aging caregivers worry about the future, and young adults with IDD look for a life beyond their childhood homes, the need for thoughtful, inclusive housing has never been more urgent.
The Grove at Cottonwood is more than a housing development. It is a bold step forward in creating a community where everyone can thrive, offering permanent, neuro-inclusive housing that empowers residents to live with dignity, independence, and connection. Read The Colorado Sun’s article to understand what this opportunity means for one local family.
Many stakeholders came together to make this housing opportunity happen. The project was funded predominantly through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program managed by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. Learn more about this collaborative effort. We’re also proud to see BCF Board Member Linda Fahrenbruch among the community leaders advancing this work through her involvement with the Broomfield Housing Alliance.
Years ago, Gina Coufal saw the need to support her IDD child and identified the lack of services available. She is the Founder and CEO of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. of Broomfield, dedicated to enhancing communities by creating opportunities for IDD individuals through an innovative, person-centered approach. You can support their endowment, hosted by the BCF.
